The Otsego Bulldogs delivered one of the most successful performances in program history at the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals, earning a state runner-up finish and bringing home two individual state championships.

After battling through a season marked by cold weather, canceled meets, and injuries, the Bulldogs peaked at the right time. Following a strong postseason that included a confidence-building performance at Regionals, Otsego entered the State Finals ready to compete with the best teams in Michigan.

The Bulldogs qualified athletes in 15 of the 17 events contested between the boys and girls programs, showcasing the depth and talent of the team throughout the day.

The meet began with a record-breaking performance from junior pole vaulter Carson Brooks, who cleared 13'4" to break a 17-year-old school record by one inch. Brooks finished tied for 11th place, narrowly missing All-State honors. In the long jump, Ethan Simpson also delivered a strong performance, finishing just a quarter-inch shy of his personal-best mark.

Otsego picked up its first team points in the shot put, where Alex Robbins placed sixth with a throw of 54'4.25". Later in the day, Robbins delivered one of the biggest moments of the meet, launching a discus throw of 172'9" to claim the Division 2 State Championship. The victory made Robbins Otsego's first individual boys track and field state champion since 2018.

The Bulldogs continued to climb the team standings as the 4x200-meter relay team of Zeke Andrina, Roman Mitchell, Sam Cook, and Jack Cook raced to a third-place finish in a school-record time of 1:28.81. The relay broke a 44-year-old school record for the second time this season and earned six valuable team points.

Ty Oaks added another All-State performance with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter dash, helping keep Otsego in contention for a podium finish.

In the 200-meter dash, Jack Cook turned in a career defining performance. Cook captured the Division 2 State Championship in 21.24 seconds, breaking the Division 2 State Finals meet record of 21.36 that had stood since 2012.

With state titles from Robbins and Cook, the Bulldogs surged into second place in the team standings and put themselves in position for a trophy.

The final event of the day—the 4x400-meter relay—would determine whether Otsego could hold onto the runner-up spot. Entering the race with only a three-point advantage over Saginaw Swan Valley, the relay team of Zeke Andrina, Kaleb Koestner, Ty Oaks, and Jack Cook delivered under pressure. The Bulldogs finished third overall in a season-best time of 3:23.74, securing enough points to clinch the Division 2 State Runner-Up trophy.

Otsego finished the meet with 36 points, just eight points behind state champion Harper Woods and four points ahead of third-place Saginaw Swan Valley.

The state runner-up finish will earn the Bulldogs a permanent place in school history as the program's 12th state championship banner displayed in the Otsego gymnasium. While Otsego track and field previously won a state title in 1926 and finished runner-up in 1930, this marks the highest finish in the modern era and one of the greatest team accomplishments in program history.
