For 30 years, Brenda’s Mitten Mission has been providing kids with a knitted hat and mittens around Allegan County. There are dozens of people who have carried on Brenda Powers’ mission since her passing, and this year is no different. But, with our current pandemic, it’s more difficult to reach kids who might need them.
Otsego’s literacy coach, Gina Watson, is excited to partner with Brenda Powers’ family to add them to the Little Libraries in Otsego and at OPS schools. “This year, we have a free scoopie token, a hat and mittens, and they’re going to go in the little library,” explains Brenda’s great-grandson, Navene Town. They are in bags and come in all different sizes. There will be several sets in each Little Library. The sizes are on the back.
The second reason to visit the Little Library, is to get your hands on new releases like Dog Man and Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Mrs. Watson will be filling the Little Libraries and putting new releases in them every month. “If you find one of these reads, take it and read it,” urges Mrs. Watson, “But, share the love of reading by putting it back into the Little Library for someone else.”
